Ge-68 sources distributed by AEA Technology QSA are manufactured
by Sanders Medical Products Inc./USA.
AEA Technology QSA has the approval to distribute these sources
in the European Community under the Medical Device Directive
93/42/EEC using the CE mark.
These sources are used in quality assurance for positron emission
tomography (PET). Rod and line sources are used for attenuation
correction and detector set-up. The calibration of the detectors
in the PET scanner, the 2D- and 3D- normalization, is performed
using a cylindrical phantom or a plane source.
Polymer compounds are used to permanently bind the Germanium-68
into a highly-uniform solid matrix. The purity of the Ge-68
used is measured using high resolution gamma ray spectrometry,
and is better than 99%. The activated compound is sealed either
in a stainless steel tube or in a cylindrical or plane outer
shell. The sources are supplied with a measurement report
stating the uniformity of the activity distribution. AEA Technology
QSA offers a full service including the return of spent sources
and support in source handling during the source exchange
or installation if required.
